Solar Hot Water Rebate

Water heating is not only a large household expense, it is also very detrimental to the environment. This has been brought to the attention of many Australians through the solar cell rebate. Water heating with an electric water heater is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from the average Australian home. Water heating accounts for about 23% of total household emissions. A solar powered hot water heater can save the environment from these emissions, and save your family hundreds of dollars in energy costs. Upgrading to solar heating cells has become even more desirable because of the government solar power rebates.

This solar hot water rebate can greatly benefit those who meet the application criteria. In most states, there are additional state solar rebates besides the Australian government solar rebate of $1000. Solar rebates NSW consist of an additional $300 available for those who upgrade their electric hot water system to a solar or heat pump water system. Those eligible for a solar panel rebate must apply directly to the federal and state governments in order to receive solar hot water rebate funds. Rebates are also available through Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). A REC for a solar or heat pump water heater is the equivalent of 1 MWh of renewable energy produced, or non-renewable energy displaced over ten years. Heating your water with solar energy will save you a lot of money and help the environment.

The government solar power rebate is offered for solar panels systems installed on, or after 20th February 2010 until June 2012, subject to the availability of funds. Applicants have up to 2 months (62 days) after installation to apply for the solar panels upgrade rebate. Applicants are required to attach a copy of purchase receipts which prove the solar cells installation. To apply for REC rebates, first time installs and replacements may be eligible. This type of solar hot water rebate can be claimed within 12 months of solar panel installation. The solar panels installation benefits not only include a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, but can also save you a lot of money through government rebates for solar hot water.
